Yesterday was a great day. I’m talking the kind of day where everything seems to go perfectly, and you end the day feeling victorious and like you’ve got this whole parenting thing figured out.
Today, was not that day. Screaming, fighting, talking back…and that was all before 9 a.m! My kids lost both playground and tv privileges for the day. Not exactly the way I wanted the day to start out.
But, you know what? It ended up being a pretty good day.
We turned off the tv and read books. (Amelia Bedelia is our current favorite!)
Jana had an appointment with the chiropractor (who we all LOVE!). The kids were really well-behaved there too. It’s a very kid-friendly environment and I appreciate how thoughtful the staff is towards my children. I mean, it’s not every doctor that will take time to print your child a germ coloring page!
After lunch, Iris took a 2 hour nap, and Gunnar and Jana worked on math and reading. Gunnar independently read 6 pages in his book, and wrote his numbers, by 5s, to 100. I was encouraged on both accounts with his diligence to get the work done. Reading is not always enjoyable for him, and he finds writing numbers to be terribly boring, so it was a really encouraging school day!
Jana continued her phonics lesson on the letter M. She also amazed me by writing both her name and “Mom” free-handed. When Gunnar was four, he would literally cry at the sight of any type of writing utensil. So having a kid that is begging to learn how to write is new and exciting territory for us!
So that was our day. It started out rough, but overall was pretty great. And we’re having steaks on the grill tonight, so I think it’ll end up being a pretty good evening, too!
