I’ve already talked about the benefits of using Birth Affirmations in labor, and now want to share another way I prepared for the births of my children.
As a Christian, I find an overwhelming sense of peace when I’m in the Word of God. I am far from perfect, and many times I do struggle to spend time in Bible study and prayer each day, but when I am rooted in God’s Word I notice that I am calmer and better equipped to handle trials that may come my way.
For most of us, labor can be a fearful and uncertain event. It doesn’t matter how many books you’ve read on childbirth, the classes you’ve taken, or if you plan on an un medicated or medicated birth, there are still a lot of unknowns surrounding labor and delivery.
I found the following verses to be a balm to my worrisome soul in the last weeks of pregnancy and during labor. I pray that you might find some comfort in them as well.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding
The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace
The Lord gives strength to his people;
the Lord blesses his people with peace.
2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
For I am the Lord your God
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
From the ends of the earth I call to you,
I call as my heart grows faint;
lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
